Duties of Lamar County Judge

The title "County Judge" can be confusing. While it's true that in many of Texas's 254 counties the County Judge position is primarily administrative, that's not the case in Lamar County.

In Lamar County, the County Judge is a judge who presides over a courtroom and makes legal decisions that directly impact people's lives, their liberty, and their rights. This is in addition to the administrative function of the Lamar County Judge.

The Legal Demands of This Office

As Lamar County Judge, I preside over County Court, hearing a wide range of cases including:

  • Contested misdemeanor criminal cases
  • Probate matters
  • Juvenile cases
  • Mental health commitments
  • Appeals from Justice Court
  • Civil cases
  • And more

These are serious legal proceedings that require a thorough understanding of the law, courtroom procedure, rules of evidence, and constitutional protections. Families depend on the County Judge to handle their loved ones' estates properly. Parents and children depend on fair and legally sound decisions in juvenile matters. People in mental health crisis need a judge who understands the gravity and legal complexity of commitment orders.

Around-the-Clock Legal Responsibility

Beyond the courtroom, law enforcement depends on the County Judge to be available at all hours to sign warrants and orders—and Texas law requires that certain warrants can only be signed by a licensed attorney. Just between December 24th and December 28th of 2025, I was called out five times to sign mental health orders and blood specimen warrants. This isn't a 9-to-5 job. When law enforcement needs a warrant signed at 2 a.m., they need a judge who is legally qualified to do it. Also, time is of the essense when evidence is collected under these circumstances.

Experience and Education Matter

I am a licensed attorney. I went to law school. I have the legal training and credentials this position demands. My opponent did not attend law school and is not a licensed attorney.

This isn't about politics—it's about qualifications. Would you want someone without a medical degree performing surgery? Would you hire an accountant who never studied accounting? The County Judge position in Lamar County is a legal office that requires legal expertise.

The Right Qualifications for the Job

Lamar County deserves a County Judge who can competently handle every legal responsibility this office demands—in the courtroom, when reviewing warrant affidavits, and everywhere in between. The people who appear before the County Court deserve a judge who knows the law. Law enforcement deserves a partner who can provide the legal authority they need to do their jobs. Suspects deserve someone who understands their constitutional rights. Families in crisis deserve a judge with the training to make sound legal decisions.

I have dedicated my career to serving Lamar County with the professional qualifications this office requires. As your County Judge, I will continue to bring the legal expertise, experience, and availability that our community depends on.
